At Eikon Church we’ve been doing a series called “XOXO – Friends, Flings, & Relationship Things.” We’ve been spending the past few weeks talking about everything from marriage to dating to sex, and last week we took your questions. As I prepared I realized really quickly that we wouldn’t quite have the time to answer all the questions, so we decided to take to the blog to field a few more of the questions here. If you missed any of the weeks, make sure to go back and watch what you missed here.

Today we’re going to be tackling a question about dating and marriage, so here we go…

Why does the church not help people find marriage? Why are we left to learn dating from the world and left to evaluate people based on the world’s standards without help from the church?

Here’s the thing… to be honest, we (as the Church, capital “C”) don’t do this for the most part. When I tell people that at Eikon we’re preaching about topics like dating and sex I often get weird looks… “You can’t talk about that in CHURCH!”

But why not? Relationships are the things that probably affect our lives more than anything else. Dating and sex are everywhere in our culture. When Paul went to a city that had a culture drenched in sex he spent a good amount of time talking about relationships, sex, purity, and love. I think it’s time the Church does the same thing.

And that really is what this whole series was about. If you missed the week we talked about dating, please check it out here. Our Executive Pastor, Steve, did an incredible job tackling this topic and gave us some great truths. However, this wasn’t the first time we’ve talked about dating though. Actually several months ago it was Steve once again that talked about it. Check out that message here as he challenged single people to become the person the person you are looking for is looking for.

I also want to point you to another free resource we offer at Eikon Church. We have a subscription service to an online website called RightNow Media. RightNow Media  is a FREE online customizable resource to help equip, train and inspire people to live out their faith. Imagine Netflix but with Bible studies, tools and other videos. I did a quick search for “dating” and found over 33 video Bible studies. Try “marriage” and you get over 90 studies (each study contains multiple lessons). You get the point, there is a TON of content out there.

You can sign up for a free account on RightNow Media here on our Eikon site. Just put your info in and we’ll get you added.

Ultimately, we as Eikon Church want to come alongside you when it comes to relationships, especially dating relationships. At some point you will date someone for the last time – and we want that dating relationship to lead to a healthy and happy marriage!
