I love to dream! I’ve always been this way. I love to imagine how things could be, how they ought to be. I love envisioning a better tomorrow. I’m ever an optimist, the glass is always at least half-full. One of my favorite quotes is by Henry David Thoreau, “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” I love thinking about vision, and I also love what I get to do – I love the church, specifically… I love Eikon Church.

This is what this upcoming week is all about. On Thursday, the 15th, the Eikon Staff will be packing up and leaving San Marcos for a few days of dreaming, visioning, and planning. We can build our castles in the air, but this is our chance to plan and build some foundations underneath those visions. We’ll get away, pray like it depends on God and work like it depends on us. We will talk, debate, dream, plan, and create structures for all God has for us.

I want to give you a little “behind the scenes” look on all that’s going to be going down. I’ve talked to enough people to know that many people that have never been on staff at a church tend to wonder what us “pastor-folk” do all day. I mean, we really just work on Sunday, right?

We’ll take time to pray together, be challenged, and discuss our plans for all the areas of the church. We’ll have time to focus on eKids (which is huge by the way). Just imagine planning for environments for babies, Pre-K, and elementary. Then, there’s also our weekly after school program, mentoring program, and the volunteers to run all of that. But it’s not all eKids… we’ll also talk about The Turn (our middle school group), The Spot (our high school group), and everything that those ministries cover.

But that’s just the beginning… we’ll talk about college ministry, worship nights, small groups, community engagement, missions and missions trips, Sunday mornings, volunteers, and a myriad of other things the church does. In the midst of all of this we’ll have time to laugh, hang out, learn about ourselves and how we work together – and dream for the future of all of these. We’ll do everything we can to discover the vision God has in store for Eikon Church.

Finally, it’ll be time to put action to all these plans. We’ll need to hammer out strategies and game plans to all of this. It’ll be time to put action to that vision.

“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.”   – Joel A. Barker

So if you think about it… could you pray for us? We’ve got a lot to do… and we couldn’t be more excited!
