There is nothing in this world that could replace the love I have for this season! Enjoying time with family, delicious food, cool weather, christmas music… I could go on… but you get it, Christmas spirit is in FULL swing.
All of these things are so fun and are what help make up the season, but if we’re not careful we can easily get caught up in all the commercialism of the holidays. It can easily turn into a competition as we strive to keep up with the Jones’. And often times we miss out on the opportunity to be a blessing to everyone around us.
I recently discovered an online initiative called #GivingTuesday that I’ve decided to make a holiday tradition for myself. #GivingTuesday takes place today which is three days after Black Friday and one day after Cyber Monday. This goal of #GivingTuesday is to help us prioritize others in this season when our thoughts and actions are flooded by checking off all the items on our shopping list. As we enjoy all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, we’re reminded that we truly are more blessed when we give than when we receive.
As we lean into #GivingTuesday today, we have an amazing opportunity to bless our own community by participating in the First Gift Offering at Eikon Church. It’s our opportunity to give our first and best gift to God this holiday season. It’s our chance to thank God for all the blessings He’s given us, while also being a blessing to others. I know for me I want to play a part in sharing hope and joy with others.
This year we are investing every dollar that comes in from our First Gift offering right back into our community! In 2019 we’re going to practice putting love in action, and sharing the love of Jesus in practical and tangible ways. This special offering will enable us to engage our neighbors through…
- Community Events like Night to Shine.
- Serve Projects like Eikon Loves ________.
- Community Resources like counseling and benevolence.
- Supporting Local Organizations like the Hays County Food Bank.
We have so much to be thankful for and these things are easily highlighted when we take up opportunities to participate in generosity. Let’s allow this to be the anthem of the Christmas season, may our thoughts and actions be the overflow of gratitude in our hearts as we lead the way in generosity. Let’s all make #GivingTuesday a tradition in a nation that has made it easy to be consumed by commercialism. Let’s join God in being a blessing to others.
