What do you want to be known for? Your ability to do a job well? Your generosity? Your acts of service towards others? John 13:35 reveals to us what Jesus wanted us to be known for. As you read over that verse, take some time to write a list on a sheet of paper. At the top, write, “What does love require of me?” Create some space in your schedule to focus on that list in prayer and begin writing down some ideas of ways that you can show love to others in your everyday life. Then, take out your calendar and put down some dates to intentionally make those ideas a reality. You’ll be so glad you did!

The kind of love that Jesus talked about over and over with His followers wasn’t a feeling kind of love—it was rooted in action. We must love in action because love IS action. 1 John 3:18 reminds us of this truth. Even though we know why we should show love in action, we sometimes feel overwhelmed with how to make that happen. At some point today, check out As you read through the many local options, take some time to pray and ask the Lord to give you the courage and guidance you need to take steps toward helping show love in action towards your community.

Loving like Jesus is an action we choose, not an emotion we use. There’s not a single person that always ‘feels’ like showing love through actions, and there are many people that make us feel anything but love. However, when it comes to those we consider enemies, Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:43-45 gives us a clear direction—to choose to love them and pray for them. The Greek word used for LOVE in verse 43 translates into ‘wish them well.’ Take a moment right now to think of one person that you find challenging to love. Pray for them and ask God to help empower you to believe the best about them and for them.

This past Sunday, we handed out business cards that say, “Eikon loves __________.” Did you get a chance to fill it out and put action into your love for others? If not, take some time to do that today. If you need an idea of how to do it, open your Bible or Bible app to 1 John 3:17. Go through your closet and pack a bag with any items you can donate to neighbors in need or homeless shelters. As you prepare those bags, pray that God would use your possessions to bless those who may receive them. Pray for families that will stay warm and individuals who may ace that job interview thanks to your love in action!

The Seedling Foundation is a local organization that works to support children challenged by parental incarceration with innovative, research-driven, school-based mentoring. Would you take some time today to ask the Lord how you might be able to partner with Seedling? Please continue lifting this organization, and all those entrusted to their care in your prayers.
