1 Corinthians 12:13 paints a beautiful picture of unity and belonging for us in God’s great family. We each have a story (or stories) of how our lives have been changed through our personal relationship with Jesus. And here He invites us to all be baptized—no matter your upbringing, no matter your previous mistakes or current hang-ups, no matter what people think or say about you—there is plenty of room for ALL in the family of faith, and you fit in just perfectly! We have a Baptism Sunday coming up on May 5th at Eikon. You can sign up here.
When we own our faith and make it personal, it changes the way we move about the cabin on this journey called life. 2 Peter 3:18 guides us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. But to know Him more is to take steps to get closer to Him—spending time with Him in prayer and Bible study, walking out our faith surrounded by a faith community that points us back to Him when we lose our way. What are some next steps you’ve been thinking about taking in your personal faith? Take some time out to pray and seek God about those next steps, and then make your move!
Baptism is not just a ritual or symbol of repentance, as it was in the days of The Old Testament. It is meant to bring us a step closer in our personal relationship with Christ. There is significance in being baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It signifies a deeper belonging to the family of God. As you read over Matthew 28:16-20, think about what it means to belong to the family of God—surrounded by love, grace, forgiveness, and purpose. Spend some time in prayer, thanking God for making a way to have a personal relationship with a heavenly Father who wants to be close to you.
Take a look at a baby picture of yourself and then take a look at a recent photo of yourself. You’ve gotten to make decisions and take steps through the years that have led you to become the person you are today. Similarly, baptism is the evidence of a personal decision to associate with a new way of life—following the ways of Jesus. Read over Ephesians 4:17-32 and reflect on any decisions you need to make at this point in your life to better embrace (or re-embrace) Jesus’ way of living life. Pray a prayer of surrender, knowing you can trust the Lord, and boldly make a step in Jesus’ direction.
Do you remember a moment in your life where you made a big decision, and you felt like it was the best decision of your life, but you didn’t know if anyone else would care because it was your personal choice? This Sunday at Eikon, we get to care and celebrate big as people make big decisions to take the next step in their faith on Baptism Sunday! Take a moment today to read over Hebrews 10:24 and pray for those who are anticipating and preparing their hearts to take a beautiful next step. Ask the Lord to show you how you can continue to be a support for these people and watch what God does as you do!
